About Center Harbor

Where Two Lakes
Meet the Village

Center Harbor sits at a genuinely special intersection in the Lakes Region, with shoreline on both Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake, as well as Lake Waukewan and Lake Winona tucked further inland. With just over 1,000 year-round residents, it is one of the smaller towns in the region, but it carries more character per square mile than most.

The name comes from its central position between Moultonborough and Meredith, as well as the early Senter family who were among the first to settle here. The village green, the town band that has played free Friday concerts since 1878, and the 4th of July fireworks over the lake all speak to a community that genuinely takes care of what it has.

Squam Lake, one of the cleanest and most pristine lakes in New England, was the setting for the cottage scenes in the 1981 film On Golden Pond. That reputation for natural beauty and quiet hasn't faded. Center Harbor remains one of the most sought-after small towns in the region for buyers who want access without the crowd.

Two-Lake Access

Shoreline on both Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake gives Center Harbor a dual-lake appeal that very few towns in New Hampshire can offer.

Squam Lake

One of New England's most pristine lakes, known for exceptional water clarity, loon populations, and the filming location for On Golden Pond. Waterfront here is rare and highly valued.

Conservation Land

Center Harbor Woods, the Proctor Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest give the town hundreds of acres of protected trails and natural habitat.

Inter-Lakes Schools

Students attend Inter-Lakes Elementary and Inter-Lakes Junior-Senior High in neighboring Meredith, part of a well-regarded regional school district.

Why Buy in Center Harbor

Small Town,
Big Appeal

01

Waterfront on Two Lakes

Whether you want the busy energy of Winnipesaukee or the serene quiet of Squam, Center Harbor gives you access to both. Waterfront inventory is limited and moves quickly when it appears.

02

Historic Village Homes

Antique capes, colonial farmhouses, and period properties line the roads around the village green. For buyers who want genuine New England character, Center Harbor delivers it authentically.

03

Strong Investment Market

Low inventory and consistent demand from buyers drawn to both lakes keep values strong. Properties in Center Harbor hold well and attract interest from a wide range of buyer profiles.

"Center Harbor is one of those places that quietly impresses you. The village, the two lakes, the conservation land all around it. It is a small town that has held onto what makes it special, and buyers who find it tend to fall for it pretty quickly."
